Despite other studies also finding reductions in homocysteine, there was no substantial evidence indicating that b vitamins lowered CVD risk [281, 284]. Furthermore, supplemental doses that have been used (ranging between 20 pg and 2.5 mg folate; 200 pg and 50 mg vitamin B6; and 0.4 mg and 1 mg vitamin B12) are greater than what can be achieved through dietary sources alone and are far higher than current recommended intakes. |

Good sources of b vitamins include whole grains and dried beans (soaked and cooked). Most diets are too low in these vitamins, so a 50- to 100-mg B-complex supplement is usually needed.

Vitamin B-l (Thiamine)The b vitamins are water-soluble but, as with all vitamins and minerals, do not go overboard. Vitamin B-l maintains normal function of the nervous system, and improves brain power in pets according to Wendell Belfield, DVM. In addition, some pet owners claim vitamin B-1 works as a flea repellent.
Vitamin B-l is found in beef liver and kidneys, whole grains, bran oatmeal, salmon, wheat germ, peanuts, and kidney beans. Vitamin B-l deficiencies may result in: unsteadiness, decreased learning ability, loss of appetite, fatigue, and vomiting. |

Multivitamin use was most popular (38%) followed by single or combined antioxidant use (21%) and b vitamins (8%) [244]. The primary reason for using dietary supplements was to achieve self-care goals, as a means of ensuring good health, alleviating depression, and for "medicinal" purposes to treat and prevent various illnesses, including the common cold and flu [243].
Epidemiologic and clinical studies that have evaluated dietary supplements in the prevention or treatment of disease are inconsistent, showing little or no benefit. |

Beans are also full of b vitamins, potassium, and fiber, which promote digestive health and relieve constipation. Eating beans may also help prevent colon cancer and reduce blood cholesterol, a leading cause of heart disease.
Beans may help reduce the risk for cardiovascular disease. In terms of possible heart protection, start with the antioxidants and phytochemicals in beans, then add in the fact that beans are one of the highest-fiber plant foods on the planet, with V2 cup generally contributing 7 grams of fiber. |

Vitamins May Fight Cravings
In a recent study, people who had taken multivitamins, b vitamins or chromium regularly for the past 10 years gained less weight than people who did not take them.
Possible reason: The body's craving for certain essential nutrients may cause hunger. Vitamin/mineral supplements may lessen hunger by supplying nutrients that would have been supplied by food.
Best: Take a multivitamin/mineral that provides chromium and the daily recommended intake of vitamins B-6 and B-12.

Buckwheat is high in fiber, magnesium, b vitamins, and manganese. It contains flavonoids such as rutin, which helps lower bad cholesterol levels and maintain proper blood flow. Buckwheat has lignans, such as entero-lactone, which may protect against breast cancer and heart disease. It contains the beneficial antioxidants vitamin E, tocotrienols, selenium, phenolic acids, and phytic acid.

During his medical residency, he purposely avoided his assigned patients, his condition significantly interfering with his ability to perform. Due to the urgency that he felt, he once again sought the help from a medical doctor, who prescribed 0.5 mg of Ativan (lorazepam) twice daily. |

At the same time we have B-vitamin deficiencies, which is interesting because so many of the popular food products sold in grocery stores all over the country and around the world actually deplete the body of b vitamins. The two most common ingredients in our foods seem to be white flour and sugar. It's hard to find any product in the grocery store, it seems, that isn't made with flour or some form of added sugars, whether it's sucrose, high fructose corn syrup, dextrose or just plain sugar. |
For example, when a person eats a donut, that donut contains both white flour and added sugars, which deplete the body of b vitamins, causing deficiencies. And it is these deficiencies that lead to antisocial behavior, aggressive behavior and ultimately criminal behavior - especially among males.
Another dietary factor in these behavioral disorders, it turns out, is a lack of quality protein. People aren't getting high quality protein because they think the only place to get protein is from beef and red meat, when in fact superfoods like spirulina offer much higher quality protein. |

The beneficial bacteria crowd out unwanted species, produce natural antibiotics to kill pathogenic bacteria, help digest foods, and make many of our b vitamins and Vitamin K as well. Another recently discovered function of probiotics (another name for beneficial flora) is "crosstalk" between the flora and the intestinal lining. This occurs through uptake of parts of the bacteria and may literally be bacterial vibrations communicating with the intestinal lining itself. The result is healthy immune balancing in the intestines, which is responsible for at least 60 percenr of our immunity. |

Prescribing b vitamins and EssentialFatty Acids
Thiamine
When optimal doses of thiamine are used, side effects are rare, but can include nervousness, itching, flushing, shortness of breath, tachycardia, a sensation of heat, perfuse perspiration, headache, insomnia, irritability, muscle tremors, and weakness.111 have treated several patients for cardiovascular disease with very high doses of thiamine (2 g or more per day), and have not seen any of these reported side effects.
Pyridoxine
Pyridoxine has several unusual side effects that must be considered when prescribing optimal doses. |

Although he followed this plan diligently, his anxiety did not lessen. After 6 months of the vitamin plan, he added a standardized extract of Kava two to three times each day. Within 2 weeks, his anxiety symptoms were markedly improved. He was able to be in stressful social situations without blushing or appearing nervous. |

If people ate more molasses or used it in their cooking or their oatmeal, they would get more b vitamins, more magnesium, more zinc. They would be healthier. Inositol
Inositol is an important intracellular second-messenger precursor that is used by some muscarinic, noradrenergic alpha1, and serotonergic (5-HT2) receptors. When supplemented at optimal doses peripherally, inositol gains entrance into the brain and significantly raises brain levels.6

What you'll get are lots of b vitamins for your brain, including B12 and folate, two of the most important ones.
"In our study, we found that low levels of either of these two vitamins were related to an increased Alzheimer's disease risk," says Hui-Xin Wang, a researcher with the Swedish Kungsholmen Project. His study monitored the levels of these vital nutrients in 370 healthy people age 75 and older for three years.
People with low amounts of B12 and folate had higher homocysteine levels. |

Here we have a nutrient deficiency, most notably the b vitamins, that is causing children to act aggressively and be diagnosed with ADHD. The solution offered by conventional medicine is to dose them with antidepressant drugs that actually promote more aggressive behavior as we've seen in recent school killings. What kind of solution is that? It sounds crazy, but it's exactly the solution being implemented every day, right now, all across the country. Perhaps even with your child. But these kids don't need drugs; they need vitamins, nutrition and healthy foods. |

For example, if you buy the Alive Whole Food Energizer, you're not going to see on the label a listing of the b vitamins, the C vitamins, the antioxidants and so on, because it's not broken down like that. It just tells you what foods were used to make the product. From there, you have to understand that those foods provide those nutrients and much more in a full spectrum of great nutrition.
It's also important to take these supplements from several different sources. You don't want to take superfoods every day and rely on that as your only source of supplemental nutrition. |

Malnourished children weren't getting crucial minerals like zinc and iron, and they weren't getting the b vitamins they needed to develop healthy nervous systems. And a healthy nervous system is a prerequisite for mental and emotional health and stability.
Now let's talk about these nutrients in a little more detail and explore why these nutritional deficiencies are so widespread. Zinc is perhaps the single most common nutritional deficiency in the American population. Estimates are that more than 80% of the population is deficient in zinc. |

And this one ingredient -- refined white flour -- strips the body of essential nutrition, leaving it deficient in b vitamins as well as minerals like magnesium and zinc. In terms of nutrient dependencies, though, I will demonstrate that many causes of anxiety are probably the result of nutrient dependencies to vitamins, specifically vitamin B-3 (niacin or niacinamide), B-12 (cobalamin), and other b vitamins, as well as inositol, specific amino acids, minerals (calcium and magnesium), or omega-3 essential fatty acids.

They help us to synthesize b vitamins, which are necessary for the health of our nervous and digestive systems. If you are lactose intolerant it's probably because you've taken antibiotics and you have killed all the good bacteria. Good bacteria are responsible for breaking down lactose. If you have any other nutritional deficiencies, which you probably do, one reason is because whatever you take in is not getting into the cells of your body. Without the good bacteria dominating the internal environment, yeast (or Candida) will convert into its fungal form. |
