Supplements or vegetable broths can provide minerals and electrolytes such as sodium and potassium that are depleted by diarrhea. Chamomile tea (Matricaria recutita) is very useful in reducing cramping and gastrointestinal upset. Berberine,1 a yellow alkaloid and the active ingredient in goldenseal (Hydrastis canadensis), barberry (Berberis vulgaris), and Oregon grape root (Berberis aquifolium) have antimicrobial properties and can help reduce the viral activity in the intestines.
Chinese medicine has several excellent remedies for gastroenteritis. |

Food and Drug Administration (FDA) presented Congress with an initiative to control and limit consumer access to dietary supplements such as herbs, vitamins, and minerals.
There was a huge public outcry against such limitations. During the months that the FDA proposal was being considered, congressional representatives received more mail from concerned constituents than they had received on any issue in history except for the Vietnam War. It was one of the strongest grassroots campaigns this country had ever witnessed. |

Proponents claim that chelation promotes absorption, but ordinary minerals get absorbed just fine.
Also, don't pay extra for vitamins that claim to be sugar- or starch-free. Unless you're seriously allergic, a little sugar or starch won't hurt you.
Timing Is Everything
When and how you take your supplements can definitely influence their effectiveness. A once-a-day insurance formula, or multivitamin, is better than nothing. But Somer recommends choosing a multi that you can take in small doses several times a day. |

Kelp possesses great affinity for trapping minerals, and it fails to differentiate. It has a particular affinity for arsenic. For instance, several cases of arsenic poisoning have occurred in kelp users. Kelp harvested from remote regions is free of industrial pollutants and is devoid of measurable levels of arsenic or other heavy metals. PureKelp by North American Herb & Spice is one such brand. It is assayed and proven to be free of toxic chemicals, arsenic, or heavy metals. Before buying kelp be sure to investigate the source. |

On The Omega Diet you will be eating seven or more servings a day, giving you added helpings of vitamins, fiber, minerals, antioxidants, and health-enhancing substances called "phytochemicals."
The Seven Dietary Guidelines of The Omega Diet
1. Eat foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids such as fatty fish (salmon, tuna, trout, herring, mackerel), walnuts, canola oil, flaxseeds, and green leafy vegetables. Or, if you prefer, take omega-3 supplements.
2. Use monounsaturated oils such as olive oil and canola oil as your primary fat.
3. Eat seven or more servings of fruits and vegetables every day. |
They have so much to offer—vitamins, protein, fiber, minerals, cancer-fighting phytochem-icals, folic acid, and LNA. Meanwhile, they are low in cost, low in calories, and free of saturated fat and cholesterol.
Soybeans are especially rich in LNA, and they also contain genistein, a cancer-fighting phytochemical. Years ago, manufacturers of vegetable burgers boasted that their products "contain no soy." Now savvy shoppers seek out these products precisely because of their soy content. There are a number of frozen soy patties on the market that are quite tasty. |
In creating The Omega Diet, the traditional diet of Crete has been modified in a number of ways, including adding canola oil with its high LNA content to compensate for the fact that Americans eat fewer green leafy vegetables, legumes, and walnuts than the Greeks, and rarely eat wild plants—all good sources of LNA, vitamins, minerals, fiber, and phytochemicals.

Colostrum is higher in protein and minerals than fat, but as true milk replaces colostrum, the fat content increases to reflect the greater needs of the child.
Other bioactive substances in human milk include friendly bacteria, immunoglobulins, enzymes that destroy unfriendly bacteria and aid digestion, growth factors, hormones, and nonessential amino acids that aid in the growth and healing of the intestinal tract. Formula contains none of these additional factors.13 In fact, there are about one hundred elements found in breast milk that are missing from infant formula. |
Unless pregnant moms are supplementing their diets with high-quality protein, consuming at least twenty percent more protein than before they became pregnant, they may not be able to provide their baby with the amino acid building blocks for a healthy brain.
The minerals calcium, potassium, zinc, and magnesium are needed in a growing brain to activate hundreds of brain enzymes, take part in the manufacturing of adenosine triphosphate (ATP) or cellular energy, aid in the transfer of nerve signals, help regulate enzymes, and increase the passage of nutrients in and out of cell walls. |
But the one commonality they have is that the traditional diets are nutrient-rich in proteins, essential fats, unrefined carbohydrates (in the form of brightly colored vegetables and limited grains and fruit), and micronutrients (vitamins, minerals, and enzymes).

Albrecht discovered that undulant fever in livestock and humans could be cured by adding trace minerals to the soil in which their food grew. He proved that plant vulnerability to insects, fungus, and disease in general were all caused by mineral deficiency and agri-chemical toxicity. Even drought resistance came from the soil. Albrecht's work was conclusive of at least one stubborn fact: Soil is a living substance.

When we look at the global ecological travesty that we are in, we see too that the immune system of mankind is ominously jeopardized. We tend to think of the jeopardy in terms of some very special areas, the popularized media "items" such as AIDS. After all, the World Health Organization (WHO) forecasts that 75 million people are going to die from this immune system disease. But doesn't all life-threatening disease involve a collapse of the immune system? |
I asked the doctors attending the lecture to touch the soil and hold it in their hands to experience direct contact with a high-quality soil, a soil exquisitely rich in minerals, biological precious metals.
When they touched the soil, that "touch" symbolized the first lesson we need to learn in strengthening our immune system: Our individual immune systems are inescapably linked to the planet Earth, of whose substance we are made. The entire planet Earth, the complete geosphere, has its own functioning immune system, a self-protecting, regenerating, healing system. |
ARTIFICIAL CHEMICAL FERTILIZERS
These are fertilizers manufactured from petroleum-based chemicals, devoid of trace minerals. Artificial iron and magnesium are added because they are known to be essential, but other needed trace elements are generally neglected.
The problem with artificial chemical fertilizers is that they cannot be integrated into soil or plant life in the same way that bio-organic chemicals can. In a natural environment, life is renewed as dead vegetation decomposes and feeds the microbial life in the soil. |
In the healthy body, calcium is more abundant than all the other minerals added together. There is always a great demand for calcium. But, like the proper currency in the right country, it must be in the correct form to use.
When the dairy industry started pasteurizing the milk, they made calcium absorption and utilization more difficult. |

• for halting diarrhea and intestinal cramps
• for preventing infection and scarring in burns
• for firming up sloppy stools (especially in infants)
• for healing wounds and killing germs in wounds
• for application to abrasions, cuts, and sores
• for easing constipation
• for halting coughs and lung congestion
• for aiding in the growth of natural/healthy intestinal bacteria

Royal jelly is super-rich in vitamins, minerals, and enzymes. Plus, it contains the bonus of naturally occurring steroids, which are of enormous utility for the function of the human body.
Few people realize how critical royal jelly is; it is the only substance making the difference between the long lived queen bee and regular bees. Incredibly, the queen lives 24 times as long as the regular bees, plus she is stronger and sexually potent. This explains why royal jelly is famous for halting impotence and improving hormone balance. |

Other minerals, which are important in small amounts for optimal health, are ignored.
Storage is another nutrient killer. Once plant foods have been harvested, their nutritional value begins to drop. The longer they are stored, the more significant the nutrient losses. You may be surprised to learn that certain fruits and vegetables—apples, potatoes, and other root vegetables, for example—can be stored for months on end. Freezing produce tends to lock in nutrients, but whether or not these nutrients remain intact depends on how the frozen items are handled during shipping and storage. |

Raw and cooked apples, fresh-pressed apple cider, and unpasteurized apple cider vinegar are particularly good ways to get the anti-cancer benefits of apples. |

A profound lack of will is an interesting aspect of chronic Epstein-Barr virus infection, but it is distinctively different from common or classical depression. However, many medical doctors, not understanding chronic fatigue or the difference in mood between clinical depression and fatigue states, continue to diagnosis chronic fatigue patients with depression. |

He therefore has a built-in resistance to the type of treatment used by medical nutritionists, since a prescription for more than one or two vitamins, minerals, or amino acids directly collides with his training, and it doesn't occur to him that a rule which operates well with toxic drugs is not appropriately applied to harmless nutrients, which, rationally, should not be prescribed singly'. |

Protection against Invisible Menaces in the Menus
Three cancer-producing chemicals are in our diets or are synthesized by the body from precursors in our foods. One of these can be totally avoided, or if present, negated. Another can be minimized and nutritionally controlled. The third is a product of overconsumption of a popular food, a mistake easily corrected, and there are nutritional antidotes for it, too. |

The analysis revealed that it is an excellent source of a wide range of minerals, notably calcium, magnesium, chromium, potassium, iron, and silica. Incredibly, it contains some 1500 mg of potassium per 100 grams, making it far richer in this mineral than any fruit or vegetable. A superb source of chromium, it contains nearly 1400 meg per 100 grams, which makes it incredibly dense in this mineral. Its natural chromium content is perhaps the most impressive component. |

The prenatal period while the child is developing in the womb is when nutrients like Omega-3 fatty acids, Omega-6 fatty acids, minerals, vitamins, and proteins are needed so that the developing brain grows properly.
Over the past few years of counseling clients and giving lectures to younger and older women, I also have become concerned with how many women never really recuperate from the process of giving birth. |
Vitamins and minerals aren't the only nutrients lacking in the early twenty-first century. We are eating less Omega-3 fatty acids now than ever before, and these levels are continuing to fall.15 Ancestral diets contained Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids (both of which are important in balanced ratios), in a ratio of approximately 1:1. Today's ratios stand between 1:10 and 1:20-25 (Omega-3:Omega-6).16
We simply aren't getting nearly enough Omega-3 fatty acids to grow a healthy brain. |
