Freshly-made juices are better than any store-bought vitamin and mineral supplements, and will produce detoxification and health-rebuilding results faster than anything else. They are whole living foods that are easy for the body to digest.
Make a transition plan for yourself or your family that each week, you will move a little closer to an ideal diet. Decide that one or two years from now, you will be eating according to, or close to, the suggestions outlined in the Healthy Lifestyle Checklist (see later in this chapter). Above all, don't make it hard on yourself or others. |

When you are stressed, going from one time zone to another, undergoing an operation, experiencing a viral or bacterial infection, or just arguing with your spouse, dramatically increase your intake of vitamin C to bowel tolerance, which usually occurs at 6,000 to 10,000 mg per day. Typical daily dose: 500-1,000 mg twice a day
Magnesium Most adults become profoundly deficient in magnesium, a mineral essential for muscle contraction and nerve conduction. |

These may satisfy our acquired tastes and hunger, but unfortunately, their mineral and vitamin content does not satisfy the body's cellular requirements for nutrition.
Advantages of Fresh Raw Fruit and Vegetable Juices
The advantages of consuming fresh raw fruit and vegetable juices over eating the actual fruits and vegetables are that they: are an alkaline meal with concentrated nutrients. are foods with the living enzymes intact—if consumed soon after juicing. require little digestion (about 10% of that required by solid food), and are easily assimilated by the body. |

Unlike what your doctor will probably tell you, my research, as reported in the journal Atherosclerosis, has shown that Diet Evolution and two simple supplements, C0Q10 and niacin, also known as vitamin B3, will lower Lp(a) to normal levels in the vast majority of people.6 You can turn off the genes producing Lp(a).
THE TRIGLYCERIDE CONNECTION
The level of triglycerides in each person's blood correlates exactly to his or her intake of "white," "beige," and "brown" foods, as well as of fruits. |
Interaction with the new animal foods altered our forbears', and consequently our own, genetic ability to manufacture a vitamin necessary for life. Pretty powerful stuff: something you eat a lot of can control or change your genes!
As the chart "Evolution of the Human Diet" on the opposite page demonstrates, our diet has evolved from that of early humans, to those of hunter-gatherers, to the diet resulting from the Agricultural Revolution, and finally to our modern diet. In that time, calorie-dense and micronutrient-sparse food has supplanted micronutrient-dense and calorie-sparse food. |

Eating a regular diet of junk food leads to vitamin, mineral, amino acid, and enzyme deficiencies. Junk foods are dead because they lack their live enzyme components. Further, most of them have been refined, processed, and overheated. In addition, chemicals have been added as taste enhancers and preservatives. Junk food is toxic and stressful to the body.
Too Much Cooked and Processed Food
Cooked and processed food places hardships on the body. Enzymes, which are in raw food to assist in its breakdown, are destroyed when food is heated above ii2-i20°f (44-49°c). |
Organic, whole-food concentrate, low-dosage vitamin and mineral supplements that contain live enzymes.
A supplement of cold-pressed flax oil for the first while, then hemp oil to ensure an adequate supply of essential fatty acids. A limited amount of cooked protein. However, each meal should contain some quality protein source that will combine properly with other foods. Hemp protein is excellent.
A good probiotic product to ensure a healthy population of friendly bacteria in the colon.
Antibiotics and drugs in situations of serious health crises only. |
Caffeine, nicotine, sugar, table salt, red meats (to a large extent), strong spices, chocolate (made with sugar), trans fats and hydrogenated oils, fried foods, dairy products (except unsalted butter in moderation), refined grains and flours and their products, nonorganic-source or high potency or synthetic vitamin and mineral supplements, 'enriched' foods and foods with chemical additives. Genetically altered foods. ?Cereals, grains, and seeds that are processed, boxed, puffed, flaked. Roasted commercial cereals. Cereals with sugar. White rice. Roasted and/or salted or rancid seeds. |

SODIUM METABISULPHITE
Sodium metabisulphite is an additive used to prevent bacteria growing in foods, preserve colours of canned and prepared foods and retain vitamin C. It is added to drinks including alcohol and fruit juices, toppings, salad dressings, essences, jams, dried fruits and vegetables, sausages, 'fresh' prawns and fruit yoghurt. It has been shown to have strong links to childhood asthma, especially where the child also has a folic acid deficiency. |

Some experts believe that subtle vitamin and mineral deficiencies as well as enhanced nutrient requirements at different stages of life can cause your immune system to falter in its important work.
"We know that in many older folks, for example, immune response is compromised," says Adria Sherman, Ph.D., professor and chair of the Department of Nutritional Sciences at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey. "It's not clear whether this is an inevitable charactetistic of aging, a physiological process, years of nutritional depletion, poor eating habits or increased needs. |

National Institute of Public Health and Environmental Protection in the Netherlands, assessed the intake of flavonoids in the Dutch diet, he found that "on a milligram-per-day basis, the intake of the antioxidant flavonoids still exceeded that of the antioxidants beta-carotene and vitamin E. Thus flavonoids represent an important source of antioxidants in the human diet."3
A well-reported 1993 study, also conducted by Dr. Hertog, showed that as intake of flavonoids increases, the risk of death from heart disease decreases. |

These organs also regulate mineral ion concentration (particularly potassium), produce hotmones that affect red blood cell production, and convert vitamin D into an active hormonal form. Overall, the health of the kidneys directly affects the health of the entire body.
Kidney imbalances can result from genetic disorders, xenobiotics (including heavy metal toxicity), kidney stones, and bacterial infections. |

Simply stating obvious truths -- like "vitamin C cures scurvy" or "chocolate makes the brain feel happy" -- is enough to land you in federal prison courtesy of the pharmaceutical thugs running the Fraud and Drug Administration. Today, we live under a system of medical tyranny engineered by the agency that, in an honest world, should be protecting consumers and finding ways to help enhance their health rather than focusing on ways to exploit them for Big Pharma profits.
The FDA has never threatened me to remove a single article I've written about the agency. You know why? |

These agents interfere with vitamin K function in liver cells; this vitamin is necessary for the synthesis of 'normal' prothrombin. A deficiency of vitamin K leads to abnormal prothrombin synthesis and a reduction in activity of the blood-clotting mechanism. Warfarin has also been used as a rat poison.
Warfarin and nicoumalone are examples of fully synthetic agents that have been developed from a natural product template.
The psoralens are coumarins that possess a furan ring and are sometimes known as furocoumarins or furanocoumarins because of this ring. |
Vitamin A preparations are also used to treat nappy rash, skin irritations and minor burns; vitamin A acid (retinoic acid) and vitamin A palmitate are used as treatments for acne.
THE GLYCOSIDES
The glycosides are discussed in a separate section here as they in fact enhance the structural diversity of other natural product classes. The term glycoside is a generic term for a natural product that is chemically bound to a sugar. Thus the glycoside is composed of parts: the sugar and the aglycone. |

According to a Greenpeace report, golden rice provides so little vitamin A, "a two-year-old child would need to eat 7 pounds per day."31 Likewise, an adult would need to eat nearly 20 pounds to get the daily recommended dose.32
"This whole project is actually based on what can only be characterized as intentional deception," writes Benedikt Haerlin, former international coordinator of Greenpeace's genetic engineering campaign. "We recalculated their figures again and again. We just could not believe serious scientists and companies would do this."33
There are other considerations. |
He adds, "We do not consider golden rice the solution to the vitamin A deficiency problem."38
Grains of Delusion "The main agenda for golden rice is not malnutrition but garnering greater support and acceptance for genetic engineering amongst the public, the scientific community, and funding agencies. Given this reality, the promise of golden rice should be taken with a pinch of salt. |

To solve the vitamin D problem, the only thing the people need to do is start drinking cod liver oil by the tablespoon, or exposing their skin to natural sunlight on a regular basis.
Our medical community doesn't test for nutritional deficiencies because nobody makes any money when the tests come back positive. Anybody can sell nutritional supplements, of course, but what I mean is that there's no controlling interest of the drugs that would be used to treat vitamin D deficiencies as in the case of AIDS. |

David Schubert points out that "a GM plant making vitamin A precursor, such as 'golden rice,' might also produce retinoic acid derivatives." He says these might result in "direct toxicity or abnormal embryonic development."34 In addition, one gene inserted into the rice comes from daffodils. It is possible that it will also transfer known allergens from the flower.35
Biotech proponents also admit that to persuade people to eat yellow rice may require an educational campaign. |

Green tea acts as a digestive aid, is a source of important nutrients, such as vitamin C and fluoride, and protects the digestive tract from potentially harmful compounds found in some foods. In addition, green tea promotes the friendly bacteria needed for a healthy intestine and may even help prevent ulcers and aid weight-loss efforts. All in all, green tea is a great way to start—or end—almost any meal. The next chapter will show even more ways that green tea promotes good health for women.

The absorption of several minerals including calcium and zinc is reduced by too much bran in the diet, and if the body is deficient in vitamin D calcium will not be absorbed properly. A greater proportion of iron is absorbed from food if it is eaten in meat rather than contained in fresh green vegetables.
Of course, not all minerals are good for you in large quantities, and care must be taken not to overdose yourself. For instance, too much salt (sodium chloride) in the diet causes high blood pressure. |

However, it is usually less expensive and more flexible to take vitamin C and the bioflavonoids separately—you can then vary the doses independently. Other specific bioflavonoids have general antioxidant benefits and some more specific effects.
Quercetin
This brilliant yellow-green bioflavonoid has a special effect on certain cell membranes. It has an affinity for the cells that release histamine and serotonin, the mediators of the allergic and mflammatory responses. It stabilizes the membranes of these mast cells and basophils, reducing their chemical release. |

Many juicing experts advise that you should not mix vegetable and fruit juices as it can cause assimilation and digestive difficulties. Although best taken on their own, various fruit juices can be combined, for example orange and pineapple, apple and prune juices. Take care with watermelon and mango—some people are allergic to them. |
Increase your consumption of vitamin C. Try homeopathic remedies to ease your addiction: these are easily obtainable at health food stores or pharmacies.
Enjoy the financial incentive. Just work out how much you used to spend on cigarettes each week (most people are horrified when they do). How much is that a year? That would pay for a terrific holiday, even a new car over a couple of years. Save the money you used to spend on cigarettes and give yourself a special treat. At least once a week reward yourself by buying or doing something that makes you feel good. |

Like taking more of a vitamin (within reason, of course), larger amounts of physical activity have a more dramatic effect on mood compared with less strenuous activities. Dunn studied eighty young and middle-aged adults with mild to serious depression. She found that moderate (three days a week) physical activity for twelve weeks reduced symptoms of depression by 30 percent; however, more intense (five days a week) aerobic exercise cut symptoms of depression by almost half! |
Years ago, when the writer Norman Cousins was bedridden with a serious illness, he used vitamin C and laughter— watching old Three Stooges movies—to recover. Laughing is good for the heart, improves overall circulation, and reduces blood sugar levels. It also eases muscle tension and encourages deep, healthy breathing.
Having a good laugh—what one researcher calls "mirthful," or playful, laughter—can produce significant changes in neurohormones and neurotransmitters. Lee S. Berk, M.D. |
