Beating cancer with nutrition almost always requires these things:
Daily consumption of raw plants from the allium family (garlic is best)
Daily consumption of raw cruciferous vegetables (like broccoli)
Massive intake of vitamin D (under supervision of a naturopath)
Daily consumption of raw, freshly blended fruit and vegetable juices (includ beet, ginger, kale and all the superfruits you can find... |

Although phytonutrients are not nutrients in the traditional sense—that is, they don't provide energy or elements essential to the metabolic process—they have just as much effect on health as any vitamin or mineral.
By the 1950s, scientists thought that they had discovered all of the important elements in food. They were wrong. Only today are phytonutrients gaining the recognition they deserve. Even though researchers are actively investigating phytonutrients, some authorities estimate that 99 percent of phytonutrients have yet to be discovered! |

Glucosamine Sulfate
Glucosamine sulfate is not really a vitamin, but it is the major amino sugar in the body. It is formed from glucose using the amino acid glutamine as the source of the amino group. Amino sugars are important components of connective tissue, including cartilage, the rubbery material in the joints that protects them from wear and tear.
When joints are inflamed from osteoarthritis (degenerative joint disease), supplements of glucosamine sulfate are often helpful in relieving symptoms and restoring joint integrity. |

This test compares the free radical scavenging ability of the antioxidant in question with that of an equal amount of trolox, a water-soluble form of vitamin E. In this case the antioxidants tested included green tea polyphenols and various other flavonoids. The green tea polyphenols topped the charts. Epicatechin gallate, epigallo-catechin gallate, epigallocatechin, gallic acid, epicatechin, and catechin all ranked at or near the top of the ranking for antioxidant activity. |

These are what I usually recommend for urinary infections, in addition to extra vitamin C. (I also prescribe antibiotics as needed.)
How to take
Cranberry powder is commonly available as 425-mg capsules. For most urinary infections, I suggest taking two capsules two or four times per day. If you are drinking the unsweetened juice, you may need up to one pint to be effective. This can be spread throughout the day. Sometimes a maintenance dose of cranberry supplements can prevent recurrence of infections. |
Some companies claim that their brand of "vitamin Z" is superior because of the form, or because it is "all natural," or it is combined with "synergistic nutrients" or herbs. Most of the time the additional dietary factors that are present are there in such small quantities that they have only a token presence—not enough to be therapeutic.
Some companies will say that their product is highly researched and tested, but when you look at the research papers that they provide, the studies refer to the basic nutrient ingredient (such as folic acid or beta-carotene) not to their particular brand. |
For example, in order to achieve the best effects with vitamin C, especially in viral infections, you sometimes need a very high blood level. These levels are more difficult to achieve with timed-release pills, because of their slow dissolution and absorption.
Occasionally timed-release pills are not properly timed, so that the tablet does not disintegrate and dissolve in time or in the right place to be well absorbed from the intestinal tract. Most plain supplements are fairly well absorbed and utilized, so a slow-release form is unnecessary. |
They need extra pantothenic acid (as well as vitamin C) to restore normal adrenal function. A deficiency of pantothenic acid can lead to depression, fatigue and insomnia. Requirements for pantothenic acid are higher during pregnancy and lactation. Some physicians are using high doses for arthritis.
I often recommend high doses of pantothenic acid for my patients with recurrent illnesses, environmental toxicity, allergies or high stress levels. |

Other anti-mutagenic compounds in green tea include caffeine and vitamin C.7
Anti-mutagenic compounds can be further categorized according to their modes of action. Experts suggest that desmutagens inactivate mutagens through chemical or enzymatic interactions with them, thereby preventing the alteration of genes. Meanwhile, bio-antimutagens lessen the damage after genes have been attacked by mutagens by helping the gene repair itself or by lessening the impact the mutated gene has on other parts of the cell. According to Dr. Yu F. |

If you have fair skin, you have a body designed to live further away from the equator in a place where you're not getting much sunlight, because fair skin doesn't block the sun and allows more radiation to penetrate your skin, which results in the production of vitamin D. vitamin D, of course, is an essential nutrient for preventing prostate cancer, breast cancer, osteoporosis and many other disorders.
Through genetic engineering, we can alter our bodies to fit our environments and fit our modern societies. |

Provera?is the synthetic version of the hormone progesterone. Provera?contains two side chains indicated by arrows in Figure 1 that the hormone progesterone does not have. These side chains make Provera?an unnatural substance for the human body.

So if a patient needs vitamin C, it doesn't matter whether there's a drug company around or not -- I just give them vitamin C. And the same thing with all the nutrients. There are about 150 nutrients now known to have physiological effects on the human body, and that doesn't change. We may better understand how those nutrients work, but they don't change.
Mike: Oh, okay. Here's an interesting questions: is the demand so high for this education that there's a waiting list to get into these universities, or what's the situation on that?
Dr. Pizzorno: It varies. |

Sunscreen directly promotes vitamin D deficiency. You show me a person who regularly uses sunscreen, and I'll show you a person who's on the road towards cancer and other degenerative diseases. People who use sunscreen are killing themselves and they don't even know it!
The sunscreen marketing con
The marketing of sunscreen is another great example of consumer product companies fabricating a need in order to sell a high-profit product made mostly with toxic chemicals. |
They didn't run and hide from the sun, they used it as nourishment to generate a crucial vitamin that supports human health in a multitude of ways. The idea that "the sun is bad for you" makes about as much sense as "water is bad for you" or "the Earth is flat." This persistent myth was invented, marketed and publicized by an industry that profits from a gullible public believing demonstrable falsehoods.
But why would the cancer industry go along with the deception, you might ask? Because the continued commercial success of the cancer industry depends on more people getting cancer. |
And that's due to two primary reasons: 1) Sunscreen blocks vitamin D production, a nutrient that strongly prevents cancer, and 2) Sunscreen products almost always contain cancer-causing chemicals that are absorbed through the skin and enter the bloodstream where they cause severe DNA damage, leading to cancer.
Seven important questions about sunscreen
The next time you see some public service advertisement urging you to smother yourself and your children with sunscreen chemicals, think hard before taking action. |
Visit our topic page on vitamin D.
If you choose to buy sunscreen, only buy natural sunscreen products containing no petrochemicals! One brand I recommend is Caribbean Blue Natural Basics "Sun Shield." You can find more at www.gocaribbeanblue.com
Smearing berries on your skin also works as a natural sunscreen, as does smearing aloe vera gel on your skin. Amazon Herb Co. distributors use a product called Camu C Serum as a natural suncreen. It works great! http://www.amazondreams.amazonherb.net
The best sunscreen, however, is an internal sunscreen built with nutrition. |

It will not do anything in the generation of vitamin D -- the production of vitamin D. What it will do, though, is it will affect your serotonin level in your brain. Serotonin is the feel-good neurotransmitter in the brain that Prozac, and that whole class of antidepressants, is meant to elevate -- they're the SSRI drugs.
Mike: Right.
Pederson: Sunlight also elevates serotonin, right?
Mike: Yes.
Pederson: That feeling you get on a nice sunny day when you're out there -- and you get that feeling in the sun that's actually a serotonergic response caused by the sunlight, right? |

At such doses, vitamin C is no longer a food supplement, but a drug. I think this is not a good idea. For one thing, these recommendations reflect the erroneous notion that a virus is the cause of "AIDS", and that vitamin C will attack the virus. For another, such megadoses violate the most important principle of recovery for a "PWA", the principle of balance. Megadoses of one vitamin can deplete other vitamins, thus artificially creating malnutrition. The best guide is still: "Nothing in excess". |

Some people may experience diarrhea when taking high daily doses of vitamin C.

I would also recommend taking vitamin B with at least 800 mg of folate, which improves memory and processing speed.
PHYSICAL EXERCISE: STEADY DOES IT
For anyone over sixty, I recommend exercising almost every day. In retirement, why not? Six days a week would be ideal, but make it fun rather than work. It's a good idea to use a heart rate monitor. They're invaluable for keeping track of your progress, and this is both motivating and reassuring. You're not left wondering whether you've done enough, at the proper intensity. |

The number of diseases that a physician can cure remains terribly small, limited for the most part to infections, vitamin deficiencies, and the rare cancer. Thus instead of curing, the physician must be satisfied with caring, and with reducing the suffering and loss of quality of life produced by a patient's symptoms. Your job as a patient is to find a physician who understands that this is his or her job. Such a physician will not reject you because you are "difficult" or because he or she does not understand your problem.
Finding such a doctor is not simple, however. |
