In his study, 7 patients with long-standing psoriasis were given 20 mg of folic acid, 4 times per day, in combination with an unspecified amount of vitamin C. Marked improvements were seen in these patients after 3 to 6 months of treatment. However, of 3 other patients who had previously received methotrexate (a drug that interferes with folic acid) for their psoriasis, 2 became decidedly worse after taking folic acid.7 Dr. Wright and I have tried Oster's regimen with a few patients. As with other nutritional treatments for psoriasis, it appears to help some patients but not others. |

Hay Fever
HAY FEVER IS ACTUALLY the common name for an allergic reaction to an airborne substance. Usually the substance is pollen, but it can be a fungus, mold, mildew, dust mites, or even pet dander or, believe it or not, cockroaches. |
C a day without talking to a physician.
Recent studies have demonstrated that rabbits who are given daily doses of cod liver oil have a lower incidence of glaucoma than rabbits who are not treated. Though studies are still needed to relate these findings to humans, I still think it's prudent for people with glaucoma to take a fish oil supplement like MaxEPA daily.
Rutin, which has been found useful in restoring normal collagen metabolism and normalizing eye tissue, is also helpful in prevention and treatment. Rutin is available in supplement form at a health food store. |

If you get more sunlight than you need, you cannot overdose on vitamin D. Your skin will produce only what's needed, and no more. But the truth is, people don't get enough of this nutrient, and thus they suffer from diseases like depression, schizophrenia, breast cancer, prostate cancer, osteoporosis, diabetes and many others.
Now here's the best part of all: How much does it cost you to get sunlight on your skin? Last time I checked, it was free of charge. |

Well, I could go out and eat 400 IUs of vitamin E. I would only need to eat 27 pounds of butter or 5 pounds of wheat germ. I mean, it just goes on. You cannot do it.
We are so stuck on RDAs, because that’s how we were trained in medical school. We don’t understand that taking supplementation in a completely balanced form really has a true health benefit; that’s the same kind of thing Kenneth Cooper ran into when he started to say that there is a health benefit of exercise. |

The consequences of nutritional deficiencies could be overcome through high-dose vitamin supplementation.
In addition, physicians have recognized that people who are obese or have diabetes are likely to have children who also develop these conditions. Such diseases in the children of obese or diabetic parents have often been vaguely attributed to either genetics or poor eating habits. While parents often share bad dietary habits with their children, there is strong evidence that some genetic changes in parents can be passed on to children and grandchildren. |

Department of Agriculture data, has shown that compared to 50 years ago, today's fruits and vegetables contain smaller amounts of some key nutrients, including protein, calcium, phosphorus, iron, riboflavin, and vitamin C. The declines included a 6 percent dip for protein and 38 percent loss of riboflavin. "This is one more reason to eat more vegetables because they are still, by far, our most nutrient-dense food," said Dr. Donald Davis, the study's lead author and researcher with the university's Biochemical Institute in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry. |

On the one hand, niacin deficiency can be easily overcome by supplementation, usually combined with high dose vitamin C. Elevated adrenochrome is a double-edged sword. It appears to promote both intelligence and psychosis, while protecting against cancer. As seen in the treatment of schizophrenics, where excessively elevated levels of adrenochrome cause psychosis, levels must be lowered by natural methyl acceptors, such as niacin and coenzyme Qio. |

However, other investigators failed to find any beneficial effect of vitamin B12.
These conflicting results may be explainable by one doctor's observation that it takes at least 30 injections before results are seen, and that the improvement is often delayed for up to 6 weeks after the treatment is stopped.'' The doctors who failed to observe benefits may not have continued the treatment for a long enough period of time. |

In addition, the mineral boron seems to reduce the loss of calcium from the body. In one study boron supplementation significantly reduced the excretion of calcium in postmenopausal women.
Reduced calcium consumption isn't the only factor that affects bone loss. Certain dietary factors actually cause the body to lose calcium. A diet high in protein increases calcium excretion and therefore bone loss. Many people today are restricting their protein intake by eating less meat, and I recommend this. |

Niacin and Chromium
Niacin (nicotinic acid) is recognized in conventional medicine as an effective cholesterol-lowering vitamin. Large doses (such as 3 grams per day) can substantially reduce cholesterol levels and may increase HDL cholesterol; however, at those doses, niacin sometimes puts stress on the liver or causes other side effects. Smaller amounts (such as 1,300 mg per day) have been shown to reduce serum cholesterol by an average of 11%.13 Even lower doses of niacin can reduce serum cholesterol if chromium is taken at the same time. |
Vitamin C at a dose of 1 gram per day increased HDL-cholesterol levels in elderly men and women with heart disease and in elderly men (but not women) without heart disease.17 In another study, 16 patients with elevated LDL- and low HDL-cholesterol levels received approximately 400 mg of magnesium per day for 4 months. Total cholesterol decreased significantly from an average of 297 to 257 mg/dl, while HDL cholesterol increased significantly from 35.2 to 46.7 mg/dl. |

The way you get vitamin D is to get some sunshine on your skin. This is not rocket science, folks. Doctors try to make it sound complicated, but it isn't.
You have anticancer properties in blueberries, and in all of the small fruits – blackberries, raspberries, acai and goji berries from Asia. Then you have onion, ginger and garlic. Garlic is phenomenal as an anti-cancer food. It contains sulphur compounds that just obliterate cancer cells. You've got spirulina, which contains anticancer phytochemicals called phycocyanin, which provide a blue-green color. |

But what you really find out, is that vitamin E is really not a drug. It is just a nutrient that we should be getting from our food. Because of supplementation now, we can get it at levels you can't obtain from food. If you really study the medical literature, an overwhelming number of studies, even when they do a study on one nutrient at a time, show a significant health benefit. However, there are studies out there that show that if you use one nutrient by itself at higher level, it can actually cause oxidative stress or more free radical production. |

The FDA touted that as evidence that the herb was dangerous to everyone, and they decided to ban the herb nationwide, effectively turning vitamin shop owners into criminals if they were to sell Ephedra.
Where was the whole argument of benefits outweighing the risks when the FDA was taking a look at Ephedra? That argument was nowhere to be seen. There are literally millions of people in this country who could benefit from Ephedra as part of a Chinese medicine remedy. In Chinese medicine, Ephedra is never taken alone, and never in high doses. |

In fact, melatonin has been proven more powerful than both glutathione and mannitol in neutralizing hydroxyl radicals and may protect cell membranes more effectively than vitamin E.79'80 Remarkably, it is 500 times more efficient at protecting cells from radiation than dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO).81

A decrease in melatonin causes increased nighttime sympathetic activity, which in turn appears to increase the risk for coronary disease. One study found that patients with coronary heart disease had nocturnal melatonin levels five times lower than in healthy controls. |

Periodontal Disease
PERIODONTAL MEANS "located around a tooth," and periodontal disease refers to any disorder of the gums and jawbone. The first stage of periodontal disease is gingivitis, an inflammation of the gums that causes them to become red, soft, and shiny, and to bleed easily, particularly when the teeth are brushed. Gingivitis is caused by accumulations of plaque, which attract the bacteria that destroy the tissues of the gum. Too many soft foods in the diet and the lack of proper nutrients also cause gingivitis. |

The way you have a population that's cancer-free is to teach people about the healing power of sunlight – about getting some sunlight and some vitamin D. You teach people to avoid these dangerous ingredients and you ban them from the food supply: You outlaw hydrogenated oils. You outlaw refined sugar. You outlaw sodium nitrate. That's what you do if you want to reform health care.
It's the only approach that makes any sense. It's the only sane approach. That's exactly why no one's talking about it. |

There are several good reasons for using vitamin B-6 (pyridoxine) therapeutically, both for psychiatric patients and for patients with physical disease.
KP is a measure of oxidative stress, found in approximately 75% of schizophrenic patients, depending upon the duration of their sickness and their treatment. While seldom present in healthy people, KP is seen in about one third of all non-psychotic patients, no matter what their diagnosis. About half of the children with infantile autism test positive. |
Since then there has been a massive effort on the part of many doctors, dietitians, professors of biochemistry, and others to educate people against taking vitamin C supplements.
The potential danger from ascorbic acid to produce kidney stones is grossly exaggerated. There is a known frequency of kidney stone episodes among the general population; it is much less than expected among ascorbic acid users. Dr Roger Cathcart, who has more experience with more patients using ascorbic acid than any other physician, told us that, in his practice, he saw very few cases. |

It's called vitamin D, and it is automatically produced by your skin when your skin cells are exposed to the healing rays of natural sunlight. By simply exposing your skin to ultraviolet light, your body automatically produces this nutrient, and then gets it circulating throughout your body to prevent all these diseases and enhance the function of your body and mind. This is an astounding realization, and it just goes to show you the innate healing potential of the human body when it is able to work in conjunction with the natural environment. |

Many scientific studies have shown that vitamin C consistently decreases the duration of cold episodes and the severity of symptoms.
"Since I began writing in this field," Dr Pauling once remarked, "I've had the support of scientists. They say that I've been right so often that I'm probably right here too. It's the medical community that has been blind. Rene Dubois, who discovered the first antibiotics, said that he was always working in the mainstream of science, but I was 20 years ahead of everyone else. I myself don't consider myself a maverick in science. I'm just ahead of it. |

Keep Your Homocysteine Low
In the past few years, it has been very well scientifically documented that high levels of homocysteine, a byproduct of metabolism of the amino acid methionine, is an important risk factor in heart disease and strokes associated with narrowed blood vessels. In fact, high homocysteine levels turn out to be a much more accurate marker of heart disease risk than cholesterol or blood pressure. |

If the disease is detected early enough, a young child can pass through the illness safely. |
