He also found through his research that 90 percent of convicted murderers diagnosed as paranoid schizophrenics suffer from vitamin deficiencies or low blood sugar.
In the 1930s, ten percent of mental patients in the South were suffering from pellagra. It was found to be a B-vitamin, or niacin, deficiency stemming from the high-corn, low-protein diet. Before this discovery, it was not called pellagra; it was called schizophrenia.
Despite such findings, the mental health aspect is the least funded in all nutrition research. |

How much is usually taken?
Although formerly used as a tea, chickweed is mainly used today as a cream applied liberally several times each day to rashes and inflammatory skin conditions (e.g., eczema [page 177]) to ease itching and inflammation. |

According to the FDA, oranges, lemons, and limes, or vitamin G, cannot legally be the cure for scurvy. Even though it is the cure for scurvy, legally it is not the cure for scurvy! I know it's totally insane; I know it's wrong, but that's how it is. And again, the reason it is that way is because the drug companies want to control anything to do with the treatment of illness and disease. The drug companies' profits are at stake and they will stop at nothing to protect those profits. |

Still, nothing was straightforward about turning beta-carotene into vitamin A, the naysayers cautioned. The beta-carotene could be degraded, or even destroyed, by exposure to light and during processing, heating, and storage. For beta-carotene to survive cooking, it's best to microwave or steam the foods, not boil or saute.10 Such culinary niceties were unlikely to be available in undeveloped countries, they said. |

B-12 (5000 meg) was given to the patient.
The patient had one more follow-up on June 27, 2005. He had reduced the risperidone to 2 mg daily on his own. He also discontinued the citalopram and bupropion hydrochloride. He did not feel worse than before and, in fact, indicated that he was more alert and required less sleep. He did not complain of any withdrawal symptoms from discontinuing the medications. His social anxiety seemed much improved. He was able to cover for his father as a courier and interact with people. This would not have been possible just a few months previously. |

I have been convinced for a long time that if we were to add 100 mg of vitamin B-3 in niacinimide form to our diet for every person, there would be a major decrease in the incidence of schizophrenia and many other diseases such as hyperactivity and learning and behavioral disorders in children.

E and copper, which should always be used when essential fatty acids and zinc, respectively, are supplemented. Occasionally digestive enzymes were also needed to facilitate the absorption of these nutrients. Although dozens of men were treated over the years, your author at one time kept track of 19 consecutive treatments, and observed that 18 of
19 men in this group experienced significant reductions in both symptoms and gland size.
So what's the difference between treatment with zinc and essential fatty acids on one gland, and saw palmetto and other herbs on another? |

When she recovered on vitamin B-3 she was normal. She worked at the Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon for 30 years on their cleaning staff and lived an independent, productive life, paying taxes on the way. I have described her rehabilitation in our book How To Live with Schizophrenia.
I.Q. tests were developed to measure intelligence of normal people and they probably are fairly good at that. If, therefore, they are of little value for sick people and valuable for normal people, it follows that the closer the tested subject is to being well the more accurate these I.Q. tests will be. |

C deficiency. The pectin and fruit acid content may be responsible for its mild laxative and diuretic action, for which it's used in folk medicine. Due to their acidic taste, rose hips are mainly found in breakfast (beverage) teas. A pleasant-tasting jam, rich in vitamin C, can be made from fresh, pitted rose hips (He-genmus or Hiefenmark of Franconian pancakes).
Making the tea: Pour boiling water over 2—2.5 g of crushed dog rose hips. Steep for 10—15 min and then strain. 1 teaspoon = about 3.5 g. |
The consumption of rose hip preparations as a vitamin C-containing dietary supplement is primarily a concern of the food industry.
There are no objections against its use as a flavor corrective component in herbal tea mixtures.

Indications: On the basis of its tannin content, raspberry leaf is popularly used as an antidiarrheic and as an astringent gargle for inflammations of the mouth and throat, and less often for chronic skin conditions. In folk medicine, it remains in use as a gynecological aid [3]. |

And in turn subclinical pellagrologists will be replaced by general practitioners who will know how to use vitamin B-3 in optimum doses and not be afraid of it. In a recent editorial in The Lancet, it is suggested that psychiatry may have to branch into two main areas: a neuroscientific group which would be familiar with molecular, technological, and physical treatments; and a psychosocial school, including psychotherapy, which would deal only with psychosocial problems.
These two biomedical ways (KP and NAD tests) of diagnosing children with learning and behavioral disorders are related. |

In 1976, Congress passed the Proxmire Amendment, which prevented the FDA from putting a limit on the potency of a vitamin or mineral supplement based on what the agency "considered to be rational or useful." In his testimony, Archer seemed to take Congress to task for limiting FDA control over supplements. "The so-called Proxmire Amendment to the FDC Act is another factor influencing the atmosphere in which the agency made its decisions regarding the regulation of amino acids," he said. |

The patient returned for another appointment on April 20, 2005. He had seen a new psychiatrist, who recommended that the patient complete a series of cognitive behavior therapy for his social anxiety disorder. The patient was also attending a weekly group for patients with social anxiety disorder. The psychiatrist prescribed 20 mg of citalopram and took him off the olanzapine. He was sleeping less since discontinuing the olanzapine. The psychiatrist also instructed the patient to continue with risperidone (4 mg at bedtime) and bupropion hydrochloride (150 mg daily). |

GOUT
When the body begins to collect uric acid, and this substance is seen in some of the joints of the body at the same time as there is joint pain, this condition is called gout. Uric acid is a product of incomplete protein metabolism. It seems to be associated with the advanced complications of dehydration. |

Archer said in his testimony that "there was an agency desire to closely regulate the addition of all vitamin, mineral, and amino acids used in foods, including dietary supplements." By making L-tryptophan the enemy, the FDA was able to use it as a scapegoat to justify that food supplements were dangerous and needed regulation. In fact, the FDA had already tried to stop L-tryptophan from being sold over-the-counter.
Congress had not cooperated with the FDA's desire to regulate and restrict supplements. |

Back Pains - The Curse of Mankind
The toxic crystals first attack the feet, which have more than 26 moveable bones in each foot. The force of gravity sends the toxic crystals down into the feet. Gradually the feet and the ankles start to stiffen, because the toxic acid crystals are taking over and replacing the lubrication in the joints of the feet. |
Several gross vitamin deficiencies in humans become obvious by their unhealthy skin.
That national epidemic, constipation, is often a manifestation of bad nutrition of the intestinal tissues. There are many involuntary "smooth" muscles which, when stimulated, cause stomach and intestinal movements. These wavelike motions keep the partially digested food moving along until the final residue reaches the large bowel and is soon eliminated. All these smooth muscles are made up of living cells which must be well nourished if the whole process is to proceed with efficiency. |

One carrot, for example, can satisfy your vitamin A need (in the form of beta-carotene) for a day. An entire head of iceberg lettuce provides only minor amounts of vitamins and minerals. Green and orange vegetables pack the biggest nutritional punch, with purple (beets and eggplant) and red (tomatoes) following. Dark green leafy vegetables, such as spinach or kale, are rich in folic acid; winter squash is high in beta-carotene. Pale-colored vegetables (like cucumbers and zucchini and other summer squashes, mushrooms, iceberg lettuce) tend to be full of water and not too much else. |

There's sound evidence, for example, that megadoses of vitamin C do slow tumor growth and increase the chances for a complete cure, but Linus Pauling hasn't been able to persuade any of the powerful institutes to perform a large-scale trial. Some animal tests are now bemg funded, but, since vitamin C is nontoxic, immediate clinical experiments on large numbers of humans would make much more sense.
In following up the regeneration connection, two experiments in particular are crying out to be tried. |

Supplementing your daily vitamin intake is necessary. If you develop cramps, you should assume that the salt in your diet is not sufficient for your body's needs. You should add salt to your diet—as long as you stick to taking more water. In asthma and allergy sufferers, salt intake becomes a vital part of the treatment. Salt unplugs the thick mucus secretions in the lungs and stops the overflow of nasal secretion, when water is plentiful. Salt breaks up mucus, rendering it watery and stringy, and suitable for expulsion with the flow of sputum, when water is also available. |
The rest of the vital minerals are fully available in the variety of foods we eat. vitamin and mineral supplements are thus recommended for insurance in case your daily diet is not high quality and contains insufficient fruits and vegetables.
The toxic mineral elements are mercury, lead, aluminum, arsenic, cadmium, and, in large quantities, iron. These minerals should be avoided—they are absorbed better by the body if the stomach is less acidic than normal.
As we grow older, some of us manufacture less and less acid in our stomachs. The condition is called achlorhydria. |
Another source of iodine is dried kelp capsules, which are available from vitamin shops.
When water is not available to get into the cells freely, it is filtered from the outside salty ocean and injected into cells that are being overworked despite their water shortage. This secondary and emergency means of supplying important cells with injected water is the reason, in severe dehydration, that we retain salt and develop edema—to have more water available to draw from for filtration and injection into the cells. |
