HERBS To fight off an infection and help eliminate poisons, the body benefits from herbs rich in vitamins A, B, C, and E, which are usually found lacking in such circumstances. Combine any of the following herbs and drink small amounts often, throughout the day: Rosemary, Comfrey, Elder, Mullein, Honeysuckle, Golden Seal, Echinacea, and Poke Root. HOMEOPATHIC There are many remedies for swollen glands. Included here are the most common, as recommended in our health kit (page 6). See a homeopath for further advice, if required.
Best foods are those rich in iron, B vitamins, manganese, and hydrochloric acid: brewer's yeast, green leafy vegetables, sunflower seeds, sesame seeds, almonds, bananas, plums, strawberries, grapes, peaches, raisins, apples, apricots, figs, honey, lentils, goat's milk, buckwheat, rice, beans, safflower oil. • Best juices are green vegetable, carrot, and red beet, red grape, black currant, prune, and apricot. Take at least two glasses daily.
WHAT TO DO—INTERNAL APPLICATIONS Usually, vitamins A, B, and C will be lacking. This deficiency can be corrected by purifying the blood and detoxifying the glands. Echinacea and Golden Seal are especially helpful in this; Dandelion, Dock, Comfrey, or Poke Root may also be added. HOMEOPATHIC Anthracinum 30c: Black and blue abscess that looks decomposed. Arsen Alb 30c: Burning pain, worse after midnight; better for heat applied to swelling. Belladonna 30c: Sudden development, intense throbbing, bright red swelling. Hepar Sulph 30c: Sharp, sticking pain, beginning with chills, tender to touch.
Daily drinks of Parsley tea which is rich in vitamins and minerals • Calc Phos Cell salt taken three times daily • Homeopathic Phosphoric Acid, Guiacum, Calc Phos 30c, or Belladonna 200c • A few drops of Lavender or Thyme oil can be rubbed on to the affected area to soothe. Seek medical or homeopathic advice if pains persist. A form of louse (Pediculosis Capitis) that lives exclusively on the scalp. The adult lice are light green in color, visible to the naked eye, and live at the base of the hair. They lay their white eggs on the hair shaft and reproduce rapidly.
Take herbs rich in vitamins A, C, and E such as: Coltsfoot, Comfrey, Burdock, Yellow Dock, Oats, Gentian, and Elecampane. Keep child's stress down to a minimum. These children are usually very sensitive to your stress levels, so keep yourself relaxed also. Relaxing herbs are Chamomile, Passionflower, Mistletoe, Lavender, or Lemon. If there is a history of infections, add Golden Seal, Southernwood, and Poke Root to the herbal combination. If the child has a tendency to constipation, add Senna or Rhubarb Root.

Similarly, the naive notion that vitamin supplements can replace fruits and vegetables has given way to a new appreciation for the treasure trove of nutrients these wholesome foods contain, including antioxidants that are not vitamins, folate, and cancer-fighting nutrients called "phytochemicals." This book translates these new findings into a simple, delicious dietary plan that will greatly increase your chances of living a long, lean, and healthy life. One of the main conclusions to come from the medical labs is that you don't have to give up fat to lose weight or enjoy better health.

Make sure that you are getting a sufficient supply of the "antistress" B vitamins. Also consider nervous system sedatives such as valerian, skullcap, chamomile and California poppy to help keep you calm and to repair damage that may already have been done. The versatile herb valerian calms people who are agitated, but stimulates those who feel fatigued, according to one Italian study. During World War II, the British used valerian tincture to treat nerves shattered during bombing raids on London.

Ultimately, fat is as essential to your health as vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, carbohydrates, and protein. Good fat is good food. All well and good, you might say, but won't eating fat make you fat? No matter how beneficial certain fats may be to your health, they're reputed to be a leading cause of obesity. This widely held belief has spawned a multibillion-dollar low-fat-food industry and launched a dozen best-selling books, but, as you will see, it is not based entirely on scientific fact.

This will be the subject of further research. The fresh green leaves of the hemp plant could not be tested for nutrition. They are used in the Indian beverage called Bhang, a frothy concoction of hemp leaves, spices, milk and honey or sugar. Protein Hemp seeds contain up to 24% protein. Recently, I interviewed two women from Colorado in my research center in Salt Lake City, one of whom had had an experience in curing her own dog of seizures by giving it MSM. The woman's name is B. Despite such goads, heart regrowth was limited to very small injuries or the border zone around larger ones, and it always took several weeks. No one had even imagined that half a heart could restore its other half, much less in a matter of hours. I could hardly wait until the next batch of slides was ready. They showed us an unprecedented type of regeneration.

Although the definition used by the researchers for "alternative" was quite liberal, including the use of vitamins and massage among other fairly common practices, the point was driven home to the mainstream medical community. The main reason so many people are consulting practitioners of alternative medicine is that they are dissatisfied with what the mainstream has to offer. People are tired of going to their medical doctors, asking about alternatives to standard approaches to health, and either being scolded, laughed at, or simply told "it's not proven." Physicians are frustrated, too.

We both placed vitamins A, C and E high on our lists. Vitamin A can come from cod-liver or some other type of fish oil, as well as leafy green vegetables and carrots (in the beta-carotene form). Vitamin C is always necessary to ward off infection. This should preferably be given in liquid or powdered form and mixed in with food. Ms. McKean was familiar with Rex Wheat Germ Oil and agreed that it was the best source of vitamin E around; one teaspoon for cats and smaller dogs and one tablespoon for larger animals every other day, we believed would be sufficient.

With a naturally high fluoride content in the drinking water in many areas of the country, along with relaxed EPA standards allowing four parts per million fluoridation—plus an increasing amount of fluoride from other sources such as toothpastes, mouthwashes, vitamins, chewing gum, and foods—many individuals could be consuming excessive amounts of fluoride. This is especially worrisome for people who live in hotter climates and who drink far greater volumes of water.
