They are rich in delicate essential fatty acids and protein as well as many vitamins and minerals. Organic nut butters, especially almond butter, are excellent nutritional sources. Flax, sunflower, pumpkin, and sesame seeds are all wonderful additions to a mixed salad. You can also grind flaxseeds and add them to salad dressings, cereals, or yogurt.

Indications: The drug is only rarely used as a laxative, diuretic, and diaphoretic for catarrhal affections. The fresh ripe fruits are used for the preparation of juice and jams. The juice (Roob Sambuci, Succus Sambuci inspissatus Helv. V.) is used in large doses as a purgative as well as a diuretic and diaphoretic. The fresh pressed juice is also used in folk medicine as a specific against sciatica and neuralgia [1, 11]. |

I found that consuming more soy and whole-grain products, eating more vegetables and less red meat, taking certain vitamins, and avoiding coffee, tea, and alcohol reduced my pain. I would heal myself for periods of time.
For eleven years I was in a team practice with a cardiologist and internist specializing in nutrition. Many women would come to me with problems similar to those I had experienced. After using the protocols I prescribed, based on scientific research and programs I had tried on myself, many of these women became healthier. |
Endocrine disruptors have been implicated in affecting a variety of other hormone signals in addition to estrogen, such as thyroid, adrenal, and vitamins A and D. Low levels of vitamin D are associated with an increase of abnormal growth of breast cells. Lowered levels of vitamin A or altered vitamin A metabolism have been associated with menstrual irregularities. Thyroid malfunctions have been related to estrogen problems and are possible causal factors in breast cancer. |

In fact, an equally likely reason for a blue day is inadequate intake of one or more vitamins.
Vitamin B6 is a case in point. Dietary intake of this B vitamin often is marginal in many segments of the population, including women of childbearing age, children, and seniors. Women typically consume half the recommended amount for vitamin B6; as many as 15 percent of women consume less than 25 percent of what they need. Pregnant and breast-feeding women often consume only 60 percenr of their requirement for vitamin B6. |

Seven men were treated for twenty days with a detoxification method that consisted of dry sauna for several hours a day, vitamins and minerals, and polyunsaturated oil. This treatment is currently used in Sweden and the United States for a variety of contamination accidents and drug rehabilitation. Pretreatment levels of sixteen chemicals, including pbb, pcbs, and three common chlorinated insecticides were taken. At posttreatment tests, thirteen were lower, with seven being statistically lower (in other words, not due to chance). |

Citrus fruits, too, cannot be defined by their vitamins alone. In 1985, Canadian researchers reported a meticulous study of patients with stomach cancer. They found that vitamin C doses (1000 milligrams a day) did help prevent stomach cancer, but little more than three fluid ounces of orange juice daily (containing only thirty-seven milligrams of vitamin C) was twice as likely to depress the chances of developing stomach cancer!

He stresses the need for healthy nutrition and possible supplementation with vitamins and minerals for those who are deficient. He says that, if at all possible, patients should take time off from work, at least during the first series of treatments. All physical activities, either at work or in sports, should be avoided during treatment.

Thymol is the major component of the essential oil; others include alpha- and beta-pinene, camphene, mycrene, delta-3-carene, limonene, gamma-terpinene, p-cymene and carvacrol.
Pharmacological studies of the oil indicated that it had a parasympathomimetic effect and produced contraction of isolated ileum, tracheal chain and bronchial musculature of guinea-pig. It depressed the cardiac musculature of guinea-pig. It also depressed the cardiac musculature in frogs and caused a marked fall in blood pressure in cats. |

We have reached a time when the scientific evidence supporting the preventive and therapeutic use of vitamins, minerals, and other food factors is literally overwhelming. Although clinical trials, biochemical analyses, and epidemiological studies demonstrate how diet plays a major role in disease, the federal government has continually disregarded the importance of nutrition.
Recent studies on folic acid demonstrate how deceptive the RDAs are. |

There are special manuals that list all the enzymes by number and give all the known specific information about their individual reactions such as how much substrate they need to be efficient, whether or not there is a feedback effect when too much product is formed, which vitamins or minerals they need as cofactors, at what temperatures they work most efficiently, at what temperatures they are denatured, and whether they work best in acid conditions or alkaline conditions. |

There are also claims that brain performance can be enhanced or preserved by taking large amounts of certain naturally occurring vitamins, minerals, or plant extracts. While there is no question that a well-balanced diet and physical exercise are important for maintaining a healthy brain, there is no clear scientific evidence to support the claimed memory benefits of specific dietary supplements.
We believe a more prudent route to brain health is to harness the brain's ability to manufacture its own natural nutrients. |

We only have to look as far as the corporate structure of America to understand why nutritional cures are not wanted. vitamins pose an enormous threat to the financial security of those with vested interests. Consider all of the money spent on cancer, heart, and arthritis research, and the hundreds of thousands of jobs provided. The American medical monopoly has created a climate of scientific bias, where there is an emphasis on drug research rather than nutrition research. |
As my knowledge of vitamins increased, so did my knowledge about the FDA's war against nutritional and alternative therapies. The FDA has conducted illegal raids on health food stores, vitamin manufacturers, and alternative health care practitioners: In 1992, FDA agents burst into a doctor's office—guns drawn—to seize Vitamin B! Yet these raids are rarely reported on network news broadcasts or in influential newspapers—the mainstream media is an instrument of the medical establishment.
I learned that bias against alternative therapies goes far deeper than the FDA. |
I thought that unless you had a specific food allergy, a multi-vitamin and/or three balanced meals a day provided adequate nourishment—I had no idea that vitamins and nutrients could modify or even alleviate chronic illness. In fact, when my aunt, Carol Frank, called to tell me she had relieved a painful arthritic condition through diet alone, I was skeptical. I believed she believed she was better, but it was hard for me to fathom that a simple change in diet could cure a chronic disease such as arthritis. |

At the time the missing substance was not known as other vitamins were ruled out. The newly recognized necessary nutrient was called vitamin E, and it was found in many natural foods but not in the synthetic diet mixes. Because it was necessary for supporting reproduction, it was given the technical name tocopherol from the Greek words descriptive of something supporting childbirth together with the suffix "ol" that described the chemical as an alcohol. During the next half a century, vitamin E was further identified as an important antioxidant. |

Some [of the approaches] involve potentially toxic doses of vitamins and/or other substances. Some are quite expensive. All pose the risk that patients who use them will abandon effective treatment." Yet, the American Cancer Society does not hesitate to endorse toxic, expensive, and potentially cancer-causing chemotherapy and radiation "therapies."
The cancer establishment, which includes the National Cancer Institute (NCI), the American Cancer Society, and the various foundations and pharmaceutical companies, have emphasized medical technology at the expense of prevention. |

Since it is now recognized that the fat soluble vitamins play important roles as antioxidants, a situation that encourages their loss would be undesirable.
Vitamin A is a very important fat soluble vitamin. It is critical for many functions, including successful reproduction, normal cell division, vision (especially night vision), function of the immune system, bone remodeling, the formation of enamel on teeth during their development in childhood, and skin health. It is referred to an anti-infective vitamin in the Merck Index. |

While a good source of protein, vitamins, and minerals for those who cannot tolerate regular foods, these are high sources of lrydrolyzed proteins and will cause MSG reactions.
Other symptoms associated with MSG sensitivity include dizziness and balance difficulties, problems common to the elderly. In larger concentrations, MSG is a potent nerve toxin, and it is likely that chronic long-term ingestion may be involved with Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease, as well as with other nerve cell degenerative diseases, such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis ( Lou Gehrig's disease). |

This function is carried out in each one of the cells and the minerals and vitamins act as catalyzing agents in the process. When these catalysts are lacking, the biochemical reactions are carried out in an incomplete way, forming toxic products that slow down the regenerative process.

Phytochemicals are neither vitamins nor minerals, yet they are equally potent and vital to the healthy functioning of our bodies. They are isolated from plants and are known technically as anthocyanosides, limonoids, glucarates, phenolic acids, flavonoids, coumarins, polyacetylenes and carotenoids.
Phytochemicals throw a biochemical wrench into one or more of the mechanisms leading to tumor development. |
The majority of elderly people over 60 suffer from deficiency of vitamins A, B12, C, calcium and iron. The population in general suffers from deficiency in zinc, folic acid, vitamin C, vitamin B6, copper, calcium and iron. On the other hand, the consumption of salt is universally excessive.

What we can deduce from the study in Finland is that minimal amounts of vitamins and minerals can't compete with the vast damage caused by the cigarettes. I shall ask Jay Hutchinson to write a letter to the Chinese and Japanese to warn them about the dangers of beta carotene and selenium reported; and also ask them why the have such a low incidence of cancer and why the Japanese, that smoke twice as much as the Finnish, have half the incidence of cancer of the lung!
It is certainly true that there is at present a controversy about vitamin supplements. |

In fact, such animals had more lung tumors. But the high-dose group had a significant prolongation in survival. There was a complete remission of tumors in 16.8 percent of the animals. The authors concluded that megadoses of these substances are probably needed in to achieve "a sufficient prevention and treatment of malignant diseases. |

FDA Import Alert #66-04] standard American diet, the formulation of prostaglandins is blocked by modern food processing (refining, heating, and processing vegetable and seed oils), and by a lack of the necessary vitamins, minerals, and amino acids. Other factors that inhibit prostaglandin formulation are aging, smoking, drinking, taking medication, stress (high blood pressure), and obesity. Essential fatty acids cannot be made by the body, and must be obtained from either the foods we eat or from a dietary supplement. |
